How to optimise concrete mixer operations with Escort DU-BLE

Country: Australia
Integrator: Fleetware
Equipment:

Escort DU-BLE wireless tilt angle sensor, ReadyMix 360 platform

Issue

The integrator was tasked to provide a company that supplies construction sites  with concrete, the system of control over the work of concrete mixers.

The client’s company needed to solve the problem of tracking the mixing mode of concrete mixers. The lack of control over mixing began to affect the quality of cement and its premature curing.

Also there was no control of the loadings and unloadings of concrete in drums. This contributed to active underflows into the drum or full-fledged draining of cement from the drum of the concrete mixer.

Also, there was no unified system for tracking all concrete mixers, collecting statistics on the entire fleet.

Faced with these issues, the company knew that it had to make a change. The lack of control, inefficiencies, and concrete thefts were starting to take a toll on their operations. Integrator’s client needed a solution that could streamline their operations, improve safety, and ultimately save them money.

Solution

To control the mixing process, the integrator needed to find a sensor that could track every revolution of the drum, record RPM and the total number of revolutions. And the problem of cement theft can be solved by controlling the raising and lowering of the drum during loading and unloading of cement.

The integrator chose to install Escort DU-BLE wireless tilt angle sensors on the customer’s cement drums, placing two sensors on each drum. DU-BLE has an ability to monitor both the X-axis and Y-axis. This setup allowed for real-time tracking of the drum’s tilt angles during transportation and mixing. To optimize operations, the data collected from the sensors was integrated into the ReadyMix 360 platform, enabling the customer to analyze and manage their concrete logistics more efficiently.

Peculiarities of DU-BLE

  • wireless data transmission via Bluetooth connection under Escort BLE Protocol
  • easy and quick to install thanks to absence of cables and wires
  • easy configuration and tuning via Escort mobile app
  • angle monitoring by tilt and rotation

Platform

The integrator installed trackers from Teltonika on concrete mixers to collect data from sensors and transmit it to the platform, with Bluetooth ensuring a straightforward and easy connection. Then Fleetware integrated the tracker with the ReadyMix 360 platform.

The platform processes the data from the sensor, displaying real-time RPM, total drum revolutions during the trip, KPIs, and time spent at construction sites.

ReadyMix 360 also sends alerts to the client if the drum’s revolutions exceed or fall short of the desired count.

Conclusion

  1. DU-BLE helps to prevent concrete curing by controlling the optimal number of revolutions.
  2. The number of drains and theft of concrete from concrete mixers has decreased.
  3. The response time to a broken drum has been reduced.
  4. The quality of the concrete has improved, as the drum rotates steadily at an optimal speed.
  5. Data and analysis for all the concrete mixers are now stored on a single platform.
